Tourbillon book, Should watchmaking books give tolerances ?

Beitrag von Mustafa Umut Sarac » Di 25. Feb 2014, 17:51

Hello there ,

This is my first post to the forum and I want to present my best.

I want to discuss Steffen Pehlow book Tourbillon book. I did not read the book yet and hoping to get the book from DGC library.

In Internet , One Hong Kong resident criticizes the book for below listed details :

- Book is not about teaching to make a tourbillon but an adventure story to success,

- Book technical drawings are not successful and not good quality,

- Book technical drawings have no tolerances and it was impossible to predict the precision

Are these valid ?

Thank you ,

Hello Mustafa,

welcome to this forum.

1) is surely true, and it is not a cookbook for making tourbillons. If the Hongkong person had different expectations, then it is his fault, not the book's.
2) 3) imho is not true. Maybe these fine drawings are different from those used in Mechanical Engineering, as Steffen Pahlow is an architect, but they have dimensions.

I wonder if you can get this book from DGC as it was ink-printed and is very sensitive to moisture.

Best regards,
